Independent Study

We are introducing an exciting new approach to homework and independent learning at The Malling School. Staff have been working very hard over the last term to produce detailed Knowledge Organisers for term three for every year group who study their subject. The knowledge organiser holds all the key information that a pupil needs to learn for a topic for that term. It is split into three sections and staff will regularly test pupils on their learning at the start of lessons throughout the term. This means that lesson time will not be wasted delivering content as the pupil already has it and this will free up teaching time to embed and extend learning.

We will be giving pupils their Knowledge Organiser packs in the first week if term 3. The front pages of the Knowledge Organiser pack explain how to use them and there is a homework timetable so that pupils and parents can see what they should be learning each night. Pupils will also be taught how to use them through assemblies and our period one programme. We will be providing all pupils with a homework exercise book to work in and their first green pen for corrections. Your child will also need a non-transparent ruler so that they can cover up work when learning the content. We are confident that our new approach to homework, with pupils actively learning at home and parents encouraged to help them through testing them on what they have learnt, will make a big difference.
