Course Description:
The course covers British History as well as History from around the world. There are opportunities to study
aspects of the course from different cultural perspectives, allowing students to appreciate diversity and the
experiences of the people in these societies.
There is a focus on modern British and European societies as well as a unit that ranges across British History
branching back to the medieval period. Students will till take 4 units of work to allow them to complete 3
written examinations. They will look at; Medicine in Britain c1250-present with an investigation into the
British sector of the Western Front; The American West c1835-95; Early Elizabethan England c1558-88 and
Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-39.
 
How will students learn?
The course enables you to develop a wide range of skills that can be applicable in every subject and the world
of work. Students will be developing skills of enquiry, analysis and synthesis. The work will focus on a wide
ranging selection of sources from different forms of media, and give students the opportunity to interpret and
analyse these. The course enables students to advance their independent learning skills.
 
How will the course be assessed?
Three examinations:
Medicine in Britain, c1250-present 1hr 15m Examination 30%
The American West, c1835-95, with 1hr 45m Examination 40%
Early Elizabethan England, 1558-88
Weimar and Nazi Germany 1hr 20m Examination 30%
