Fish4schools and School Lake Survey

IMG_0317-35Pupils took part in another Fish4schools programme on February 13th. This was a classroom based session following up what they learnt when they were taken fly fishing in November. Pupils were learning how to tie flies and learn the basics of coarse fishing, which involved learning how to elasticate a pole, basic knots and rigs along with fish identification and the countryside code.

Pupils started the session at the school lake, where they got the chance to see a fish survey taking place. This gave the pupils the opportunity to talk to students of Hadlow College who were involved completing the fish survey. Pupils from the Malling School had the opportunity to ask about the students’ courses along with how they were carrying out the fish survey.

The pupils had a very rewarding session, with all of them managing to take home their own flies they had tied.

The session was run in conjunction with the Fishing for Schools programme which is run by Charles Jardine, the Countryside Alliance and the Angling Trust.
