Duke of Edinburgh Practice Walk

DSCF9906On Saturday 25 April, twenty nine pupils met up at 8.30am for the Duke of Edinburgh bronze practice walk. The students were split into two groups; one led by Mr Whalen, and the other by Mr Barratt.  Both groups completed a 12km circular walk from school to the village of Offham and back again, with Mr Barrett’s group arriving back at the school first.

The aim of the walk was for the students to practise their navigation skills and to check the suitability of their walking kit. It was also important that every pupil had the opportunity to lead each group.

Mr Whalen was extremely impressed by all the student’s map reading and compass skills and the two groups showed excellent team spirit. We would like to thank, Mr Nicholls, Mrs Whitfield and Mrs Platt who accompanied the groups and who will be taking part in the future bronze and sliver expeditions.
