Ofsted 2015 - Good with Outstanding Features

Carl Roberts, PrincipalOur most recent Ofsted report is now available online. Read the full report here

When reading the report you will see many outstanding features recognised and although the overall judgment was ‘good’ we are pleased to see the word ‘outstanding’ used in a number of places.  In this respect the report shows an improvement from our last inspection in 2012.

In particular we were pleased to see the following outstanding features recognised:

  • Conduct of pupils and behaviour around school
  • Pupil safety including bullying being extremely rare
  • Provision for pupils in the Tydeman Centre
  • Breadth and quality of pupils’ personal development
  • Provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
  • Senior leadership, leadership in English and the Tydeman Centre and governance

I would like to thank parents for their support during the inspection and particularly note that responses to the parent online questionnaire were very positive.  It was pleasing to see that the majority of parents would recommend the school to others and I was particularly appreciative of the several parents who visited the school during the inspection to speak positively to inspectors.

The lead inspector, Clare Gillies, was very clear with me that the school is very much on the cusp of being graded outstanding and that there were only a few more things that we need to do to achieve the top grade.  The governors and senior leadership team had identified these areas for improvement before the inspection and we already have plans for addressing them.  I therefore see no reason why we should not achieve ‘outstanding’ very soon.

Yours sincerely

Carl Roberts
