Refugee Crisis Donation Letter

Following on from this week's assemblies, I am sure you have all seen the harrowing pictures on the news recently of the on-going refugee crisis, in which refugees from Syria and other nations worldwide have been forced from their homes due to conflict and persecution.

The Malling School is committed to improving the lives of others within both our local and global communities, and we are therefore asking for donations of your unwanted items which can help to improve the lives of those seeking refuge who have lost everything and are currently being forced to live in unspeakable conditions in makeshift camps in Calais, France. This is particularly important now due to the upcoming winter months.

As winter is approaching, many of us will prepare to purchase new winter clothing such as hats, scarves and coats and I hope that, rather than disposing of old, unwanted winter items, you may wish to donate them to the school's collection so that they may be put to good use by those who need them the most. All donations will be given directly to CalAid, a humanitarian organisation which regularly delivers items to those in need. You may also wish to consider purchasing a small additional item in your weekly shop which could go a long way to making another human being's life more comfortable whilst they are displaced.

We appreciate any donations you can offer of the following items by Friday 2nd October at the latest:

  • Shoes: trainers or hiking shoes size 41-46
  • Tents, covers or tarpaulin
  • Jackets: size Small and Medium
  • Travelling Bags
  • Candles or other lighting implements
  • Belts
  • Tracksuit trousers
  • Jeans size 28-32
  • Blankets
  • Sleeping bags
  • New toiletries: Soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste
  • Woolly hats, scarves, gloves
  • New socks and mens underwear
  • Pots and pans

Please ensure all items donated are clean and in good condition. All donations can be delivered to T15  during Period 1 until Friday 2nd October 2015.
