World Book Night at The Malling School

Residents of East Malling are warmly invited to collect a free book from The Malling School library on Tuesday 23 April.  The school library will be transformed for one day (and night!) only into a real life Casino Royale in honour of just one of the book titles the school will be giving away at its World Book Night Event.

Following on from the successful Reading Café at the school, launched last month, school librarian, Mrs Corinne Sherry, successfully bid to hold a WBN event at the school and is looking forward to giving away over 300 books on the day.  It was her ambition to open her school library for the day to welcome new visitors to the school and to share with them her own love of reading.

The choice of free books on offer includes: Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman, The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier, Judge Dredd: The Dark Judges, a graphic novel and finally the classic James Bond thriller, Casino Royale by Ian Fleming.

Everyone is welcome between the hours of 10.30am and 12.30pm and again from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Background

World Book Night is a celebration of reading and books which sees tens of thousands of passionate volunteers gift specially chosen and printed WBN books in their communities to share their love of reading.

By enlisting thousands of passionate book lovers around the country World Book Night reaches out to the millions of people in the UK who have yet to fall in love with reading in the hope that we can start them on their reading journey. World Book Night is about giving books and encouraging reading in those who don’t regularly do so.  But it is also about more than that: it’s about people, communities and connections, about reaching out to others and touching lives in the simplest of ways, through the sharing of stories.
