Applications

Priority is given to existing students from The Malling School transferring from Year 11, who meet the entrance criteria.

Students should apply for sixth form places via The Malling School’s common application process.  This involves applying via Kent Choices 4U KentChoices (kentprospectus.co.uk)

 

Entrance Criteria:

Students who intend to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme will be required to achieve six GCSEs at a grade 6 or above, with 7’s in their chosen Higher-Level subjects.

Students who intend to study the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme will be required to achieves five GCSEs at 5 or above including English and Maths.

Students who intend to study our bespoke Level 2 programme, will be considered on individual circumstances. Five places within the level 2 programme will be reserved for current students who attend the Specialist Resources Provision KS4.

 

Oversubscription Criteria:

If The Malling School Sixth Form is oversubscribed (PAN 50), in addition to the above criteria, the following will also be applied in priority order:

1. Children in Local Authority Care or previously in Local Authority Care – a 'looked after child' or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22( of the Children Act 1989).
2. Where the child is the daughter/son of a member of staff who has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage – in this context, daughter/son means children who are natural children, stepchildren, adopted or fostered children.
3. Current Family Association – a brother or sister in the same school at the time of entry.  In this context brother or sister means children who live as brother or sister in the same house, including natural brothers or sisters, adopted siblings, stepbrothers or sisters and foster brothers and sisters.
4. Health and Special Access reasons – medical, health and special access reasons will be applied in accordance with the school’s legal obligations, in particular those under the Equality Act 2010.  Priority will be given to those children whose mental or physical impairment means they have a demonstrable and significant need to attend The Malling School.  Such claims will need to be supported by written evidence from a suitably qualified medical or other practitioner who can demonstrate a special connection between these needs and the Malling School.
5. Nearness of children's homes to school – we use the distance between the child’s permanent address and the school, measured in a straight line using the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point data.  Distances are measured from a point defined as within the child’s home to a point defined as within the school as specified by NLPG.  The same address point on the school site is used for everybody.
