Year 7 September 2025 Entry - Admissions & Appeal Information

Application for admission to Year 7 in September 2025 will be in line with the agreed scheme put into place by the Secretary of State for Education and will be co-ordinated by Kent County Council Local Authority. This application procedure will follow the requirements as specified by the Secretary of State and will follow the timetable as set out by both Secretary of State and Kent County Council.

National Offer Day: Monday 3rd March 2025

If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2025, you can appeal if you are refused a place at one of your preferred schools on National Offer Day (Monday 3rd March 2025). You will need to submit your appeal before Monday, 31st March 2025 for it to be considered by Wednesday, 18th June 2025. Any appeals received after this time will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline, or where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.

For late applications, appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education

In-Year Admissions & Appeal Information - September 2023 to July 2024

Applications for in year casual admission to Years 7 to 11 should be made on the IYA form which is available to download from the KCC website.

The application form should be sent directly to the Admissions Officer at The Malling School.

In the event places are not available, applicants will be placed on a waiting list held by the school and ordered according to the over-subscription criteria.

You can also appeal to an independent appeal panel.  Please contact the Local Authority for further guidance and information on the Appeals Process at kent.gov.uk/schooladmissions and read the FAQ’s for In Year Appeals below. Your Appeal should be made in writing via the In Year Appeal Form, addressed to the Headteacher Mr J Vennart and sent to the Admissions Officer.  The appeal hearing will be arranged with you by the KCC Admissions Team.
