Headteacher’s Welcome
Caring, Determined and Reflective
At The Malling School, you entrust your child to us not only to receive an exceptional education, but to grow into a caring, determined and reflective adult who achieves their ambitions and makes valuable contributions to society.
Academic progress is at the heart of our work. We offer an exciting, knowledge-rich, and broad curriculum that will engage, excite and challenge all students, no matter what their starting level. Our well-established and highly successful grammar stream adds further challenge and pace. Students learn in a calm, purposeful environment with opportunities for silent working, group tasks and outstanding instruction from our teachers.
We want all students to reach their potential and are proud of our strict, consistent and caring ethos resulting in disruption free learning in every classroom. The calm environment and excellent behaviour is always noted by visitors to our school.
The Malling School is one of a handful of schools to receive the School of Character Kitemark Plus, recognising our commitment to developing the whole child; offering ambitious goals for all our students, regardless of ability. We aim for all our students to be confident and assertive, yet thoughtful and considerate. We want them to have good manners, appreciation for people around them, and strive to set high standards for themselves.
As part of our commitment to academic and character excellence, we have created a detailed Personal Development Programme, delivered each day, to develop both leadership and collaborative working skills. The Pathway offers a wide range of interesting and stimulating opportunities. Students take on leadership through sports clubs or one of the many school clubs; or by becoming a Form Rep and School Council member. All our students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award; and there are opportunities to enjoy the creative arts, through singing and music lessons, as well as drama and dance clubs. We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities including the Debating Society, Journalism Club and Sea Cadets.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, we ensure our children understand their place in our global society through engagement with world issues in lessons, Tutor Time and our own ‘Ted Talks’ delivered by our knowledgeable teachers.
Closer to home, our strong family values encourage supportive relationships between home, school and the wider community.
I look forward to the opportunity of meeting you and welcoming you to our school.
