The Malling School SRP
The Malling School SRP is a highly successful specialist mainstream provision, established in September 1990.
In order to attend the SRP students must have an Education, Health and Care Plan for one of the following:
- Speech, Language and Communication Need (SLCN)
- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Students with placements in our Specialist Resource Provision are members of The Malling School and are supported by our structured inclusion programme. Students follow a mainstream curriculum that is scaffolded to meet their needs and has a multi-sensory approach. All students study for appropriate GCSEs and other equivalent qualifications. We have high expectations for all our students to achieve or exceed their potential, which has resulted in a track record of excellent academic progress and personal development. Students receive a combination of small group and whole class teaching, supported by highly trained staff. Throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, students will receive specialist provision that supports them to make progress towards meeting the SEN outcomes set out in their EHCPs and to achieve good outcomes across the curriculum. The Specialist Resource Provision also has a designated Pastoral Manager who is responsible for student welfare throughout the school day. To support the academic progress and personal and social development of our students, we pride ourselves on our highly effective mentoring programme whereby each teacher has the responsibility for a small group of students. They design a personalised learning programme in line with the provision set out in each pupil’s EHCP. The effectiveness of this provision is continually monitored, reviewed and adapted accordingly to ensure the best learning outcomes. Tutors are responsible for monitoring student progress, their well-being and for liaising with parents/carers and other professionals.
Speech and Language Therapy
As part of the specialist designation a Speech and Language Therapist attends The Malling School for one day each week and a Speech and Language Practitioner attends for half a day each week to support students who are open to SaLT. The SaLT professionals work closely with the teachers and teaching assistants in order to ensure that the strategies practised in therapy sessions are embedded into the student’s learning environment.
The SaLT professionals also carry out training for teachers and teaching assistants throughout the year to ensure that current practices are up-to-date and relevant in the classroom.
All admissions to the Specialist Resource Provision are managed by the Local Authority.

Supporting our students with Read & Write Software
Read & Write is our literacy support tool that offers help for everyday tasks. We use this tool to help meet the needs of different learners right across the curriculum, with features such as reading text out loud, aiding students in understanding unfamiliar words and proofing written work.

WORKING WITH:
The Malling School is proud to be working with The Education People’s Specialist Employment Service to embed the supported employment model, adding value across all current careers provision. The contract aims to raise aspirations for SEND students and further enhance school’s careers information advice, and guidance programme. The supported employment in school’s contract will help mainstream schools across Kent support SEND students through transition and to prepare them for the world of work and into sustainable careers.

Curriculum Offer
24 places are allocated with two classes per year group following The Malling School mainstream National Curriculum which is scaffolded to meet their needs and when required has a multi-sensory approach.
At Key Stage 4 all students are expected to study GCSEs and other equivalent qualification with reasonable adjustments according to their level of need.

Every student is allocated a member of staff who oversees and manages their EHCP and liaises with their teachers, teaching assistants and parents to ensure that each individual student’s needs are being met.
